Travels to Lyon for treatment
Abde (knee) will leave Morocco's World Cup camp on Monday to begin his rehabilitation, heading first to Elche to spend time with his family before travelling to Lyon's Centre Orthopedique Sante, a specialist knee clinic, to begin the first phase of his recovery from the lateral knee ligament sprain, according to David Rodriguez of Zona Mixta.
Analysis: Abde had remained with the Morocco squad despite being ruled out of the tournament entirely, attending their opening fixture against Brazil in New York before departing the camp. Real Betis's medical staff agreed with the player on the decision to begin treatment in Lyon rather than Seville, also seeking to help him disconnect from his routine during the initial rehabilitation phase. Abde expressed determination to return stronger and better after a difficult week in which uncertainty surrounded his condition before his World Cup elimination was confirmed.
Knee ligament sprain confirmed
Abde has had his knee ligament sprain confirmed as moderate following further examinations, with an unavailability of two to four weeks meaning he will miss at least the entire group stage, according to Hanif Ben Berkane of Foot Mercato.
Analysis: Abde's injury is a significant blow for Morocco heading into their World Cup opener against Brazil, with Bilal El Khannouss expected to cover on the left wing in his absence. The medical staff has informed Real Betis that they intend to keep him with the squad for now, hoping to get him back on his feet in time for a potential round of 16 appearance if Morocco advance from the group stage.
