Quiet in Thursday's opener

Schick took zero shot and made two clearances in Thursday's 2-1 loss against South Korea.

Analysis: To no one's surprise, Schick started Thursday's opening World Cup match up top for Czechia. It was a disappointing performance for him as he did nothing on the attack, failing to record a shot or create a chance and finishing the match with just three total passes. He was replaced in the 64th minute for Tomas Chory who was also unable to get anything going. It seems Czechia is primarily relying on set pieces to score, something that doesn't really play into Schick's skill set. Still, Schick is clearly the country's best and most productive striker and can be deadly in front of goal if his teammates can provide him chances in the box.

Settled starter in No. 9 spot

Schick is set to lead Czechia's front line in the upcoming World Cup, aiming to retain a significant role during the big international event.

Analysis: Schick enters the World Cup as his side's top attacking threat and one of the most accomplished forwards in the tournament outside the traditional favorites. The striker has built an impressive career through multiple seasons in the Bundesliga and adds valuable experience from two European Championships, including his memorable five-goal performance at Euro 2020. A natural finisher with excellent movement and aerial ability, Schick is capable of converting limited chances against elite opposition. He's also likely to take penalty kicks, further boosting his scoring potential. If Czechia are to make a deep run, their hopes will largely rest on the left foot of their star striker, who will consequently log as many minutes as possible on the pitch.

Scores brace in win

Schick scored two goals to go with three shots (two on goal) in Saturday's 2-1 victory versus 1. FC Koln.

Analysis: Schick delivered the decisive performance in Saturday's 2-1 win over Koln, converting a first-half penalty into the bottom-left corner past Marvin Schwabe before doubling the lead in the second half by stabbing Nathan Tella's left-sided cross in at the back post. Schick has now scored 13 Bundesliga goals this season across 25 appearances, making him his side's top scorer in the competition for a second consecutive campaign.
